14.8 Presentation design

A presentation is not the report placed on slides. It should:

  • organize slides around conclusions;
  • use one main idea per slide;
  • replace paragraphs with concise evidence and readable visuals;
  • explain technical ideas in plain language;
  • connect recommendations to evidence;
  • keep technical backup material available; and
  • be rehearsed for timing, transitions, and questions.

A slide headline should state the message. “Forecast” is a topic. “Population growth will add approximately 480 annual visits under constant utilization” is an explanatory headline.
