13.7 Showing uncertainty

Forecasts, survey estimates, and model effects should not be presented as exact future facts. Depending on the method, show prediction intervals, confidence intervals, scenario bands, error bars, or a range of plausible outcomes.

The display must label the type of uncertainty. A low-base-high scenario range is not a statistical prediction interval. If intervals become wider over the forecast horizon, the visualization should preserve that feature rather than showing a single smooth line.
