Chapter 6 Trigonometric Functions of Angles

This chapter connects the unit-circle view of trigonometry with angle measurement and triangle geometry. You will convert between degrees and radians, find coterminal angles, and use radian measure to calculate arc length, sector area, and circular speed. Right-triangle trigonometry will help you determine unknown sides and angles and solve problems involving elevation, depression, and indirect measurement. You will then extend the six trigonometric functions to general angles in standard position, using reference angles and quadrant signs to find exact values. Finally, the Laws of Sines and Cosines will allow you to solve oblique triangles, analyze ambiguous cases, calculate areas, and model practical distances.
