Chapter 2 Functions
Functions provide a way to describe how one quantity depends on another. They are central to precalculus, calculus, statistics, and mathematical modeling. This chapter begins with function notation, domains, ranges, and the many ways functions can be represented. You will interpret graphs, identify intervals of increase and decrease, and calculate average rates of change. You will then explore transformations, quadratic functions, and mathematical models before learning how functions can be combined, composed, and inverted. Throughout the chapter, algebraic and graphical approaches will reinforce one another, and Desmos activities will help you visualize how changing a function’s equation affects its graph and behaviour.
